Barely out of January, the Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team heads south for the first of five pre-conference schedule “tournaments”. They’re only actually tournaments in that they will play a slate a games against different teams with the early ones being held in warmer regions. There are no elimination brackets or named champions; it’s merely a way for teams to play a slew of non-conference games in warmer weather.
(Would that baseball level the playing field in such a manner, but on the men’s side such a notion is regarded as crazy talk by the southern schools loathe to give up the advantage given to them by their mild climates.
