LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska honored fallen former punter Sam Foltz in the first quarter of its season opener Saturday at Memorial Stadium by lining up in formation without a player at his position.
The Cornhuskers, in scoreless tie with Fresno State on their first possession, took a delay-of-game penalty after just 10 players took the field to punt from their own 32-yard line with 12:53 on the clock.
The sellout crowd of more than 90,000 responded with a roar as Foltz's family observed minutes after an emotional pregame ceremony.
Freshman Caleb Lightbourn took the field after the penalty and delivered a 29-yard punt.
