INDIANAPOLIS — The media timeout was nearing its conclusion, and Tim Miles sat on the Nebraska bench as he stared at a stat sheet.
He then crumbled the piece of paper into a ball and threw it behind his chair.
Miles surely saw no surprises.
The numbers, laid out in black and white, were just difficult to stomach.
At the time, early in the second half, No. 18 Maryland was 12-of-15 on three-pointers, and Miles’ Nebraska basketball team trailed by 23 points.
Later, Miles was on his knees, pounding on the court, pleading for a defensive stop after his team courageously and somewhat miraculously whittled that deficit to six points in the final two minutes.
