Shelly Lyons, a 26-year-old native of Compton, California, joined Nebraska's football staff in January. An outside linebacker at Arizona State from 2008-11, Lyons works with linebackers coach Trent Bray, who was his position coach at ASU. Lyons describes Bray as "one of the best young coaches in the game."

"Knowledge and he's a perfectionist. I mean, he's super-smart first of all. He's been in this system since he played (at Oregon State from 2002-05) ... He can look at a play and know right away what might be going wrong and what the guys have to do, so he can correct things on the fly.
