Husker Extra Rewind: A squandered second-quarter and lots of young-guy notes

MADISON, Wis. – Scott Frost hit the nail on the head when he lamented the fact that his Nebraska team got caught playing Saturday night’s game the way Wisconsin wanted to rather than dictating.

The No. 16 Badgers (4-1, 2-0) opened their 41-17 victory with a grinding 15-play drive that only yielded three points but chewed 7 minutes, 52 seconds off the game clock. UW held the ball for 12:19 of the first quarter and the opening minutes of the second as the Huskers (0-5, 0-3) ran just seven plays in the first 17:02.

But Nebraska also had what amounted to a quarter-long chance to reverse the flow of the game and its fortunes at Camp Randall Stadium in the second, which explains freshman quarterback Adrian Martinez’s frustration with how the offense played early.
