Husker bats quiet in season-opening loss to UC Riverside

One big inning by UC Riverside and a quiet game from the Husker offense resulted in a season-opening 4-3 loss for the Nebraska baseball team on Friday in Tempe, Arizona.

The Highlanders scored all four of their runs in the third inning, and pitchers Richard Delgado and Alex Fagalde combined to limit the Huskers to four hits in the first of a four-game series.

The stat line for Nebraska's Matt Waldron, who took the loss, was solid: seven innings, six hits, zero earned runs and three strikeouts.

But the sophomore right-hander ran into trouble in the third inning when freshman Connor Cannon lifted a three-run shot with two outs over the left-field fence.
