Gill making gains as redshirt; eyeing scoring, leadership role

INDIANAPOLIS — Just last week in practice, Anton Gill made a solid move to the basket and finished strong, above the rim.

That Gill scored as a member of the scout team isn’t new. He’s been regarded as a scorer since his days at Hargrave Military Academy, when he produced 56 points in one game and 50 in another.

That Gill scored with such authority, with such emphasis, is what most impressed Nebraska basketball coaches.

“I’m walking down the court,” Nebraska assistant coach Phil Beckner said, “and two coaches walked by, both at the same time, and they just go, ‘Wow, Anton has gotten better.
