It’s safe to say that Nebraska’s first seven games did not unfold the way Husker players and coaches wanted.
A first-half debacle left them in too deep a hole to rally against a beatable Oregon team. A pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns helped Northern Illinois pull off an unthinkable upset at Memorial Stadium. Instead of competing with top-10 opponents Wisconsin and Ohio State under the lights at home, the Huskers gave up 11 touchdowns in 12 possessions and lost by an average of 31.5 points.
Athletic director Shawn Eichorst lost his job after Northern Illinois. New AD Bill Moos will decide in a matter of weeks if coach Mike Riley and his staff will lose theirs as well.
