When an estimated 125 Nebraska football players showed up Sunday morning as volunteers for the third annual Uplifting Athletes Road Race, you could tell something special was in the late July air again…community, camaraderie and commitment.
If rules only allowed participants to go inside Memorial Stadium, the scoreboard could have told the compelling story of Nebraska’s Uplifting Athletes’ latest accomplishment – three years, 1,800 runners and $75,000 in donations for research that will help fight pediatric brain cancer.
“It’s a great effort and a combined effort,” said Nebraska Senior Associate Athletic Director Keith Zimmer, who oversees the Huskers’ grass-roots momentum continuing from a football program that collectively decided to elevate pediatric brain cancer awareness and support Jack Hoffman for the inspiration he’s shown in his well-known battle.
