Florida outside hitter Thayer Hall, the No. 1-ranked player nationally in the freshman class, had 20 kills to lead the No. 7 Gators to a 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23 win against No. 2 Nebraska on the first day of the season Friday.
Nebraska, with three true freshmen in the starting lineup, had too many hitting, serving and other errors to win a few of the close sets. Nebraska hit .126 for the match and had 13 serving errors.
Florida won the first two sets. With one final chance to extend the match in the third set, Nebraska won the final two points to win the set 25-23.
