Zack Darlington knows he ran a good route. He broke quickly and cleanly on a vertical, two-high seam read.
He knew he must play fast, too.
Yet in playing fast, Darlington, a newcomer to the position, also forgot to slow down.
That may only make sense if you’re a pupil of Nebraska wide receivers coach Keith Williams.
Darlington didn’t adhere to one of Williams’ most popular phrases.
“You’ll hear him yell that running up and down the sideline,” Darlington said. “Even when guys do catch it, he’ll be yelling that.”
In other words, don’t catch the football and instantaneously whip around your head.
