Thursday's opening ceremony for the Cornhusker State Games was as decorated as its torchbearers.
It came with a little history, a Nebraska athlete from Australia and a standing ovation to one of Nebraska's most decorated volleyball players outside of Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Jordy Bahl, the Husker softball transfer from Oklahoma and Papillion native, took the opening torch from the pitcher's circle of Bowlin Stadium and kickstarted an 8/10ths of a mile stretch.
She then handed it to Nicklin Hames, who lit the cauldron — and honored a "save the date" from Nebraska Sports Council Executive Director Dave Mlnarik.
