Happy Memorial Day!
Thank you to everyone that served and lost their lives to defend our freedom.
My father served in the Vietnam conflict. Unlike many veterans of that era, he [reluctantly] talks about his service. He was a maintenance officer in the Air Force and was kept a long way from enemy lines. For a long time, he didn’t claim to be a veteran at events where speakers would ask them to stand up. He didn’t feel that his service was equal to others - or that is the impression that I get.
As the veterans of his era have started to pass away, I have noticed that he is more willing to share his status as a Vietnam-era veteran.
