College football coaching carousel: Ranking the open jobs and latest hot seat buzz

Related Topics: American football, Paul Chryst

Sundays have become bloody in the college coaching ranks. A Power 5 coach was fired Sept. 11, Sept. 18 and Sept. 26 (technically a Monday), while two lost their jobs this past Sunday, including the first true shocker of the cycle, as Wisconsin ousted Paul Chryst despite a 72% win rate.

The trend of early coach firings is likely here to stay in college football, as athletic directors want to get as much lead time as possible to make critical decisions shaping the future of their programs. While the 2021 coaching carousel came to be defined by high-profile movement and overall volume, this year's cycle likely will be remembered for its active start.
