Steven Cahoy had been close to Big Ten gold multiple times.
On Sunday, the Nebraska senior pole vaulter broke through, winning his first conference title during the final day of the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Two other Huskers won titles Sunday. Nick Percy won his second straight discus title, and Brittni Wolczyk won the women's javelin crown.
The first-place finishes from Cahoy and Percy helped the Husker men finish third in the team race with 97 points. Penn State won the team title with 117 points and Ohio State (103) was second.
