Former Husker Jordan Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, stormed to a pair of decisive wins against Andrew Howe to power to a U.S. Olympic Team Trials title Sunday night before 11,162 fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Burroughs rolled to wins of 9-3 and 10-0 against a tough competitor in the freestyle wrestling finals at 74 kilograms (163 pounds). Burroughs also defeated Howe in the finals of the 2012 Olympic Trials here.
Burroughs, 27, a two-time NCAA champion for Nebraska, now advances to August’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He captured an Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London.
