Julia Bond had an idea after last season’s national title, combined with the loss of the top player in the country, that she would have to take on a leadership role for the Nebraska bowling team.
The sophomore, who was NU's leadoff bowler last year, has moved into the anchor role. She had led the Huskers this season to two third-place tournament finishes before Saturday's championship of the Big Red Invitational at Sun Valley Lanes.
It was the top-ranked Huskers' best all-around performance this season. Nebraska finished 4-0 and had a 4,370-pinfall. The Huskers finished the three-day invite with a 14,494 pinfall, the second-highest tournament total in NU history.
