He could stay as the football coach at Central Florida, where he’d quickly turned the program into a winner. But Nebraska was also calling for Frost to come home and try to revive the program he helped lead to the 1997 national championship as a player. There would be extreme pressure at Nebraska, as there would be at any of the other schools trying to get Frost. The assistant coaches with Frost at UCF could see he was going through a lot.
“Even before we decided to take the job, we knew that going back there would be a lot of weight on his shoulders,” said Nebraska offensive coordinator Troy Walters, who had the same job at UCF.
