Nebraska’s return to Stillwater and the NCAA Regional Tournament started off with a contest against a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Seeded number two, the Cornhuskers took on three-seed Florida, a team that many pundits said should not have gotten a bid with a 28-27 record. However, they had the toughest schedule in the country and they play in the SEC, where it just matters more.
The Big Ten pitcher of the Year, Brett Sears took the mound today against a freshman RHP, Liam Peterson, that consistently threw pitches at 97-mph. The Gators have made hay all season with the long ball, and lead-off man Cade Kurland made the Cornhuskers very aware of that fact when he blasted an 0-2 slider over the wall off Sears to start the game.
