Benny Parker had tried to call Andrew White III to tell him some good news. But White’s phone was shut off. He was at 30,000 feet, on a plane headed home to Virginia for a brief visit after the spring semester.
When White landed, he turned on his phone, and there was the text message from Parker, his teammate on the Nebraska men’s basketball team.
“Hey, you want the number three jersey?”
Why, yes, in fact, White did.
“I hopped on that quick, fast and in a hurry. He just offered it to me one day and gave it to me,” White said with a big smile.
