The College Football Playoff committee released its second-to-last rankings of the 2015 season Tuesday Night with little change at the top of the rankings.
There were few upsets at the top of the standings, unlike last week. As a result, the top five teams remained completely unchanged in the fifth version of the rankings. Notre Dame took a tumble after falling to Stanford, while the Cardinal jumped a few spots.
Big 12 Champion Oklahoma seems like a lock for a spot, as their season is over. Clemson and Alabama are in with wins and the Big Ten winner will likely take a spot as well. Of course, chaos can rule if Clemson or Alabama lose in their conference championship game.
North Carolina checking in at No. 10, behind fellow ACC member Florida State means that the Tar Heels might not jump into the Top Four if they upset Clemson. That could allow for Stanford (if it wins the Pac-12) or even Ohio State to sneak in. The same is true if Alabama falls to Florida. The Gators checked in all the way down at No. 18.
Remember, these rankings serve as a reflection of where teams stand right now with their current resume. They aren't necessarily a representation of which teams the committee thinks are the best in the country; that won't be determined until the end of the season and every team has finished their regular season and conference champions have been crowned.
