March Madness is in full swing and the 2016 NCAA Tournament is almost here. Many are in the process of putting together their brackets this year, and are looking for this year's sleeper team. We've put together three of the teams who could play the sleeper role this year.
We're avoided the big names here. While Kentucky is under-seeded as a No. 4 seed, they can't qualify as a sleeper. They are too well-known and have too high of odds to consider them sleepers. The same goes for Duke, and no No. 2 or No. 1 seeds can qualify here. It's also worth mentioning that none of these teams are favorites and we're going out on a limb by suggesting them. With that in mind, here are 3 Sleepers Who Could Make A Final Four Run.
Purdue is a No. 5 seed, but the metrics have them in the Top 10. The Boilermakers nearly knocked off Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game and are entering the tournament on a hot streak. Purdue will need to beat both Virginia and the Spartans to make the Final Four, which won't be easy.
Another team that the metrics like is West Virginia. A No. 3 seed, WVU is the highest team on this list. While Kansas, Oklahoma and even Iowa State get most of the Big 12 love, this WVU team is just as good. Before they lost to Kansas in the Big 12 title game, the Mountaineers won six straight. Beating Xavier and UNC won't be an easy task, but Bob Huggins and West Virginia can do it.
This is completely dependent on which Maryland team shows up. Is it the one from earlier this season that started the year 22-3? Or the one that close the year 3-5? Maryland has plenty of talent, but there's a chance it feasted on a weak early-season schedule. If the Terrapins play like they did early this season, a deep run is possible. Maryland would need to beat Kansas to advance to the Elite Eight and likely either Villanova or Miami (FL). That won't be an easy task.
