Cal is reportedly close to announcing its replacement for Sonny Dykes after abruptly firing the four-year Golden Bears coach over the weekend. According to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman and ESPN's Brett McMurphy, moves are being made to make Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox the next coach at Cal.
According to reports, Dykes' dismissal came as a result of slumping season ticket sales and mediocre performance on the field. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, season ticket renewals for 2017 have dropped "more than 30 percent from the same time last year."
"We believe that a coaching change will reinvigorate Cal football, stimulate lagging ticket sales and renewals and energize our alumni, donor and fan base," Cal athletic director Mike Williams said, via the Chronicle, in an email to donors on Sunday night.
