William Paterson, a Division III university in Wayne, N.J., forfeited a men’s basketball game on Tuesday night, apparently because the players declined to play after the departure of their coach.
Paterson players left the floor shortly before tipoff of a home game against Ramapo College, The Asbury Park Press and other news media reported.
The game was listed as a forfeit victory on both the Paterson and Ramapo athletic department websites on Wednesday morning.
Paterson’s coach, Jose Rebimbas, had revealed his departure on a posting on Facebook on Saturday. “It is with great sadness and extreme frustration that after today I will not be coaching the basketball team at William Paterson University,” he wrote.
