William & Mary Seeks an Elusive Berth

Russell Turner was a part of not one but two teams that became the first in their programs’ histories to make an N.C.A.A. tournament. As a player, he was a freshman on the Hampden-Sydney team that made its first Division III tournament in 1989. Now, as the coach of U.C. Irvine, he hopes to lead the Anteaters to a second consecutive berth in the Division I tournament after last season’s team earned the first invitation in program history.
