AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has hired Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to be the 31st coach in the history of the Longhorns' football program. Sarkisian replaces Tom Herman, who was fired earlier Saturday after going 32-18 over four seasons.
“This is a unique and compelling opportunity to lead this storied program to the next level, competing once again amongst the best in college football," Sarkisian, 46, said in a statement released by the school.
"Steve Sarkisian is one of the top offensive minds in the game of football, which he has proved over and over during his time with USC, Atlanta, and most recently, Alabama," Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte said in the same press release.
