One day before Ainias Smith was scheduled to appear at SEC media days, Texas A&M’s top returning wide receiver instead finds himself in legal trouble.
Smith, 21, was arrested early Wednesday morning by university police and booked into Brazos County jail on charges of DWI, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
He was slated to appear Thursday in Atlanta at SEC Media Day with head coach Jimbo Fisher for interviews on Thursday along with defensive back Demani Richardson and offensive lineman Layden Robinson.
The school has yet to comment on Smith’s situation, but the news is certainly unwelcome for a program expected to be in the top 10 in upcoming preseason rankings.
