The Southeastern Conference plans to substantially increase fines for universities that violate its on-field policy. Commissioner Mike Slive of the SEC, which has fined its universities for rushing fields and storming courts since 2004, indicated that the new starting point for such a violation would be around $50,000 — 10 times more than the previous fine for first-time offenders. The new system is expected to be ratified Friday.
