Coach Sonny Dykes has agreed in principle to a contract extension with California, a source told ESPN.com.
Details of the agreement are not yet available, and it still requires approval from the UC Board of Regents before it can become official. Dykes had two years remaining on a deal he signed before the 2013 season that paid him a base salary of $2 million annually.
When contacted by ESPN.com Wednesday afternoon, Cal spokesman Wes Mallette could not confirm a deal was in place.
"We're close," he said.
Fox Sports also reported on Wednesday that a deal was imminent.
