SEC postpones LSU-Florida due to hurricane

MIAMI -- The looming impact of powerful Hurricane Matthew has prompted the LSU-Florida football game, which had been scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville, Florida, to be postponed.

The SEC made the announcement Thursday aftenroon.

The universities and the SEC office will work to reschedule the game between No. 23 Florida State and No. 10 Miami for later in the season, if possible.

Matthew was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane late Thursday morning, with top sustained winds of 140 mph. The storm was blamed for more than 100 deaths in Haiti alone, and officials in Florida urged residents to prepare for what could be widespread and massive damage.
