DESTIN, Fla. — The SEC has cleared the path for members to sell alcohol at sporting events.
SEC presidents and chancellors approved by majority vote on Friday at the conference's spring meetings to lift the ban on stadium-wide alcohol sales. The measure leaves it up to individual schools to decide whether to sell alcohol in general seating areas, although the conference maintains certain parameters.
"Schools will have autonomy," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said. "This is now an opportunity for institutions to make responsible and appropriate decisions."
The policy will go into effect Aug. 1.
