Rittenberg: Five observations from the first CFP rankings

The first College Football Playoff rankings are out, so let's dive in. Here are five observations on the initial rankings.

1. One gap between teams is correct, while other rankings gaps make no sense.

Some question whether Memphis was snubbed at No. 13, but the Tigers are justifiably five spots ahead of Ole Miss, a team they defeated definitively on Oct. 17. But how can the committee have five spots separating 1-loss Notre Dame and 1-loss Florida? Both have "good" losses, on the road to No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 LSU, respectively.
