Auburn’s athletic department prevented the university from getting rid of an athlete-friendly major, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, Auburn academic officials voted in 2013 to get rid of the undergraduate major of public administration, a popular major for Tigers’ student-athletes. When this happened, Auburn’s athletic officials lobbied university provost, Timothy Boosinger, to keep the major. They offered to subsidize the major, which was ultimately kept.
From the report:
In 2013, Auburn University’s curriculum review committee took up the case of a small, unpopular undergraduate major called public administration.
