Penn State sophomore guard to transfer

With guard D.J. Newbill out of eligibility, Penn State’s backcourt rotation would be without a key piece in 2015-16. Thursday evening head coach Patrick Chambers announced that another member of that rotation will finish his college career elsewhere.

Geno Thorpe, who averaged 8.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest as a sophomore in 2014-15, will transfer. Thorpe started 17 of the Nittany Lions’ 34 games, ranking fourth on the team in minutes per game (24.3 mpg). His departure means that Penn State currently has just one upperclassman in its backcourt, rising senior Devin Foster.

“We thank Geno for his two years at Penn State and wish him well,” Chambers said in the release.
