Oregon Ducks get a boost: Jim Leavitt decides to stay as defensive coordinator

Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt has signed a new contract that will keep him with the Ducks and pay him $1.7 million per season, according to multiple reports Sunday night.

The news comes one day after Oregon's season ended with a 38-28 loss to Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

There had been speculation that Leavitt might leave Oregon after the bowl game to join former Ducks head coach Willie Taggart at Florida State.

Leavitt's decision to stay in Eugene keeps much of the coaching staff's core intact after Taggart's departure — co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal is now head coach, co-offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo will stay as offensive coordinator, and now Leavitt will remain defensive coordinator.
