It is a complete coincidence that the NCAA’s annual convention, which is unusually in the spotlight this year, takes place this week in California.
The truth is, hotel rooms were booked years ago for this typically unremarkable event where college athletics administrators vote on mostly mundane policy changes and listen in on panel discussions about issues that impact the future of college sports. At the time Anaheim was chosen to host the convention in 2020, no one could have envisioned the NCAA would be coming to Ground Zero for what has become the biggest existential challenge in the organization’s modern history.
