Less than two months after leading Old Dominion to 27 wins and a run to the Postseason NIT semifinals, head coach Jeff Jones announced Friday that he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Jones is scheduled to undergo surgery June 1 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and with the early detection he’s hopeful to be able to return to his coaching duties in short order.
“A check-up in late 2014 revealed an elevated PSA [Prostate-Specific Antigen] level,“ Jones said in the release. “I underwent follow-up tests during the season, and in April a biopsy confirmed the existence of prostate cancer.
