Oklahoma's season of success echoes that of champion Sooners from 2000

NORMAN, Okla. — When Steven Parker batted away the upset, Bubba Burcham felt like he’d been there before. He watched Oklahoma hanging on last month against TCU, saw Parker leap to deflect a potential two-point conversion pass in the final seconds — and he flashed back to the turn of the century, when Bob Stoops’ program was young and so was he.

“Somebody’s got to make a play,” says Burcham, who was a senior center in 2000, when Oklahoma last won a national championship. “You’re not playing very well, somebody’s got to make a special play. In those seasons, those things happen.
