Iowa started Wednesday leading the Big Ten standings at 11-2, one game ahead of both Maryland and Indiana, thanks to recent losses for both the Terps and Hoosiers. Of all the games left on the Hawkeyes' schedule, Wednesday's tilt against Penn State, a sub-.500 team heading into the night, was easily the most managable game left on the regular season schedule.
Penn State overcame foul trouble and long stretches of offensive ineptitude to come away with a 79-75 upset of the No. 4 team in the country. Luckily for the Nittany Lions, the offensive struggles weren't limited to the home team and Iowa came out with one of its more disappointing offensive performances, shooting just 41 percent from the field.
