PHILADELPHIA — Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo knew it was time to overhaul his defense, but he wasn't sure how. So last winter, he called New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, a longtime Navy supporter who has become a friend.
Niumatalolo doesn't know how long their conversation lasted. He just remembers frantically taking notes in his office as Belichick spoke, too embarrassed to ask the legendary NFL coach to slow down or repeat his explanations of certain philosophies and schemes.
"It's like if you're an artist and you're talking with Picasso, you know?" Niumatalolo said.
