STARKVILLE, Miss. — The kicking situation for Mississippi State football could change in the coming weeks, with plenty of interested students taking coach Mike Leach up on his offer of a tryout.
After the Bulldogs missed three field goals against Arkansas in a 31-28 loss, Leach announced an open tryout for the kicking position. Leach said Wednesday that Mississippi State has heard from about 40 students interested in attending the tryout.
Leach didn’t know the exact tryout date, but said he thinks “it’s next week sometime.” Special teams coordinator Matt Brock will shift through the options to decide which potential walk-on kickers are worth keeping, and how many they’ll view.
