Miami will bust open wallet for next head coach

A day after firing Head Coach Al Golden, the Miami Hurricanes are talking dollars. Well, at least its major donors are.

The Miami Herald spoke with a prominent donor after Golden’s firing and the donor spilled some of the financial beans.

First, the donor spoke about how trustees, not Athletic Director Blake James, forced Golden out and what the financial ramifications were of cutting him mid-season.

The donor said UM ended up eating $7 million by firing Golden on Sunday and not waiting until the end of the season. The buyout, the donor said, would have been about $4 million less had UM waited until after the season.
