Ten years ago, Hurricane Katrina struck the southeastern part of the United States, destroying parts of Louisiana and Mississippi to the point that areas are still recovering a decade later. Weeks after, Hurricane Rita struck in the same area, further hampering efforts to begin rebuilding.
A decade later, two schools from the state of Louisiana will meet to open the 2015 football season, as the LSU Tigers host McNeese State. When the teams take to the field at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night, they will each be honoring the anniversary of the storms with a decal on every player’s helmet:
