STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Joe Moorhead won 38 games and made three appearances in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs during his four seasons at Fordham, attaining a level of success so unique when held against the school’s football-playing past that he was given what in coaching circles amounts to a lifetime contract: In December 2014, Moorhead and Fordham agreed to an extension through the 2022 season.
Fordham’s success drew attention. Moorhead turned down one head coach opportunity on the Football Bowl Subdivision level and interviewed for others during his stint with the Rams, including one such interview after last season, which ended with a loss to Chattanooga in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
