Timmy Chang is returning to Hawai'i to be the team's next head coach, the school announced Saturday.
Chang, a star quarterback for the Rainbow Warriors from 2000 to 2004, takes over at Hawai'i one month after he accepted a job as Colorado State's wide receivers coach. He was an assistant coach at Nevada the previous five seasons.
Chang's hiring comes a day after Hawai'i announced former head coach June Jones turned down the job, saying the two sides couldn't reach an agreement about Jones' staff and a succession plan.
In a statement Friday night, athletic director David Matlin said Hawai'i was "working tirelessly" to hire a coach and understood the urgency with national signing day coming Feb.
