Hall of Fame coaching icon Guy Lewis, 93, dies

Hall of Fame coach Guy Lewis, who led the Houston Cougars to 14 NCAA tournaments and five Final Fours, died Thursday at age 93.

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

University of Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek announced the death on Twitter.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Hall of Fame Coach Guy V. Lewis who passed away this morning. A true Cougar legend.

Lewis coached 30 years at Houston, winning 592 games and six conference championships. Among his players were Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler, Elvin Hayes and Hakeem Olajuwon.
