Former Georgetown coach receives Court of Honor Award

NEW YORK (AP) Former Georgetown coach John Thompson Jr. has been presented the Court of Honor Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the first time it has been given to one of their own.

Thompson led the Hoyas to 596 victories and 24 consecutive postseason appearances in 27 seasons and won the national championship in 1984. He saw 76 of the 78 players who stayed at Georgetown for four years receive a degree.

Thompson's son, John Thompson III, is Georgetown's current coach.

The first Court of Honor Award was presented in 2009 to Jerry Colangelo, chairman of USA Basketball.
