Riding an eight-game losing streak in a season in which their coach had been fired, the Maryland Terrapins could easily have given up while trailing Rutgers by 21 points late in the first half of their season finale on Saturday.
They did not, and it proved well worth it to them.
Brandon Ross scored on an 80-yard run with 4 minutes 40 seconds to play, and Maryland salvaged the game with a 46-41 victory on the road in what might have been Kyle Flood’s final game as the Scarlet Knights’ coach.
Ross, having just played in his final game, said the victory — the Terps’ biggest comeback since they overcame a 20-point deficit against Virginia in 2006 — should send a message to the returning players about never giving up.
