Clemson PG Shelton Mitchell to have surgery on knee

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson point guard Shelton Mitchell will have arthroscopic knee surgery, coach Brad Brownell said Saturday.

Brownell said Mitchell will need six weeks to recover and should be ready for individual summer workouts. A transfer from Vanderbilt, Mitchell finished second in scoring (10.8 points) led the team in assists (103) in his first season with the Tigers.

Mitchell dealt with knee issues throughout the season.

"It's a minor setback, but it's the best thing for Shelton in the long term," Brownell said. "He's a talented player, and we know he'll be ready to go for our skill development over the summer.
