A federal judge issued a groundbreaking decision last summer when she found the N.C.A.A. broke antitrust laws by preventing universities from sharing broadcast and video game revenue with top-division football and men’s basketball players. Her ruling, which would allow universities to share that money with athletes through trust funds, is scheduled to take effect Saturday. The N.C.A.A. has appealed the decision and also asked for a stay to delay the trust funds, but barring an appellate court overturning the ruling or granting the stay this week, universities can begin offering players money as soon as Saturday.
